Riassunto
The topology of the Internet is currently unknown. The Portolan Internet Topology Measurement System arises from the need for knowing and understanding the structure of the network and its evolutionary laws. The key-innovation of Portolan consists in the use of smartphones as nomadic monitors that execute topologic measurements starting from the border to the core of the network itself. Smartphones make measurements which are then sent to a centralized system for processing. Initially based only on the Android platform, the system is evolving for other operating systems and types of measurement, such as the ones related to mobile phone received signal strength (RSSI). This Thesis describes design, development and validation of a measurement system based on iOS platform which has to be integrated in Portolan. The aim is to extend the system to a large proportion of users in order to take full advantage of crowd-sourcing paradigm. Some iOS limits imposed restrictive choices during the development, but did not prevent any accurate result.
