Riassunto
The low carbon footprint and high structural efficiency of engineered wood materials make tall timber buildings an attractive option for high-rise construction given the well-established environmental, social and economic advantages of wood and wood-based materials. However, some concerns have been raised regarding their dynamic response. This thesis examines the dynamic behaviour of tall timber framed buildings under wind loads, focusing on the role of connections.
The main aim of this script was to see how the connections influence the dynamic behaviour of the whole building. To do that, parametric studies has been carried on taking into account the stability system, the type of joint and the role of damping. Thee models have been implemented and a laboratory test has been performed as validation of the numerical model.
Based on the results of this work designers will have a better understanding on role of connections when designing such tall timber framed buildings, regarding the Serviceability Limit State. Furthermore, this work will give a general view about analytical modelling of non-linear connections in FE models. Relationship with the Eurocode rules and their lack in this field will be discussed.
