Riassunto
The project work has the decrease of set-up costs as the main aim. They may imply two kinds of resource consumptions: the set-up cost and the set-up time. The first one is expressed in monetary terms, the second one consumes a certain amount of resource-hours. These consumptions are two of the more common problem for a company, together with the availability of multiple limited resources, the existence of multiple products and multiple period in a planning horizon. So companies need to find some solution techniques to reach solutions in order to reduce these negative aspects and, in this case, to reduce or eliminate set up times.
The main reason for doing it is to offer to customers finished goods with a high quality which are delivered quickly and have low costs.
The objective of the project work is to study the bending process in order to find a model that leads to time savings and cost reductions when creating a 3D product by bending unfolded sheet metal.
A press brake, when it wants to reach certain layouts, needs to install punches and dies. It has at its disposal a set of punches with their own specific lengths and the objective of the thesis is to find a way to compose the layouts, while minimizing change over times.
